Roadmapping Sessions
Are you or a young person you know…
Feeling stuck in social situations?
Lacking social confidence?
Wanting to feel better about interacting with others, but don’t know where to start?
We got you.
Our 1:1 Roadmapping sessions are designed to help identify the young person’s social goals. Together we’ll map out what support and steps will help towards doing what’s important to them.
What are “Social Goals”?
We specialise in helping young people with their social goals…but what exactly are they? Well, we’re not just talking about the number of friends a young person may have, but how they feel (or want to feel) about all those bits of life that involve interacting and relating with others. Things like…
Posting, chatting and commenting on social media
Ordering a drink at the cafe
Getting involved in group conversations
Asking for help when they’re not sure what to do
Sorting out conflict with others
Responding to bullies
Figuring out what they feel comfortable to share (and with whom)
Making friends
The list could go on, but you get the idea! Each of us can find different things hard, and may have different social goals, based on what is important and valued by us.
That’s what a Roadmapping session is all about: helping a young person identify their specific social goals. Then, we work out a plan (we call it a Roadmap) of how they can get unstuck, and move in the direction of those goals.
What to Expect
Sessions run for about 50 minutes, and can be online or face-to-face in a local community centre, school or the group space.
We use a single-session model to maximise what the young person gets out of their appointment with us. This means that we aim for the young person to walk away with a bit of a plan (“Roadmap”), that we’ll work on during the session. The Roadmap may include some steps the young person can take on themselves, and/or goals they might like to work on with the support of others. We can also discuss whether our groups may be helpful.
Some people may want to book in for another session to keep working on their Roadmap, and that’s okay too. Others may want to work on their social confidence, but don’t feel ready just yet for a group. So, we use the Roadmapping session to explore small steps that can be taken with the support of our service or others to work towards those goals. We don’t provide long-term counselling, but if this type of support is part of the young person’s Roadmap, we can suggest some therapists that offer this.
After the session, we send the young person (and any support people they nominate) a short summary of the completed Roadmap and our recommendations.
Fees
The fee for a Roadmapping session is $290.98, including the 50 minute session and 30 minutes for a summary report/Roadmap. For more information about our fees and funding options, please see our FAQ.
